Diffraction Analysis

Published series only — the list comes live from the dataset. The URL updates with your selection, so it can be bookmarked/shared.

How this report works

This page renders live from the public, de-identified Hugging Face dataset aceengineer/digitalmodel-diffraction-rao via the datasets-server API — no result values are baked into the page. Vessels are referenced only by de-identified vessel_db IDs. Pick a program, vessel and damping ratio above, or deep-link with ?solver=<AQWA|OrcaWave>&vessel=<vessel_id>&damping=<zeta_pct>.

What this analysis is

Potential-flow diffraction analysis: the vessel's six-degree-of-freedom motion response amplitude operators (RAOs) across wave frequency and heading. Results are screening-grade — faithful to the solver, de-identified, and not a class-approved design basis. Key results below are computed in-browser from the fetched rows.

Model and analysis basis

The basis below is auto-detected from the fetched rows; solver attribution and modelling notes follow the dataset card.

Per-DOF response

Amplitude vs wave period, one trace per heading. Headings 0/45/90/135/180° are shown by default — click legend entries to toggle others. Phase plots are collapsed beneath each DOF.

Interpretation notes

  • Damping treatment matters for roll: a series with ζ = 0 % carries no external/viscous roll damping — its roll-resonance peak is an undamped potential-flow upper bound, not an operability prediction. Apply an external roll damping model before operational use.
  • Frequency-band scope: some series are published on a focused band (e.g. refined around the roll-response band); absence of rows outside the band is by scope, not omission.
  • Reliability flags travel with the data: rows flagged non-ok (e.g. undamped_resonance, low_freq_artifact) should be excluded from downstream use; definitions are on the dataset card.
  • Phase conventions: published phases use the Orcina lag convention (the export pipeline normalizes) — verify before phase-level cross-tool comparison.
  • See the dataset card for per-vessel data-quality notes and withheld tables. Cross-solver benchmarking lives in the comparison report.
